Green Schools
In May 2023 we were awarded our first Green School Flag for ‘Litter and Waste’. This was a very special day for our school community as all of our hard work to make our school more green by minimising our waste was acknowledged and rewarded.
Our journey to achieving our first Green flag was a community effort. Everyone got involved – our students, parents, staff and the wider community.
We are now working towards achieving our Water Flag!!
Our school water motto is- ‘Turn off the tap to be a cool cat’
The Green school committee have been working hard to teach all the children ways they can reduce their use of water. They also attended a Water workshop which taught them all about the importance of water, the steps taken to clean water and also took part in water experiments with different schools in Dublin.
On the 24th April 2024 we had our school water walk. All the children in the school walked to River Valley Park and back and brought their water bottles with them. They learnt all about how children in other parts of the world have to walk up to 5 km for fresh water. This gave everyone a new appreciation for how lucky we are to be able to turn on our taps to get water!!
The Green school committee and our whole school community are continuing their hard work towards our Water Flag 🙂

Welcome to River Valley
Community National School!

Welcome to River Valley Community National School! We opened in September 2019 under the patronage of Dublin and Dun Laoghaire Education and Training Board (DDLTB) as a Community National School.
As Principal of River Valley Community School, it is my pleasure to welcome you to our school website. I hope our website will provide useful and current information for both current and prospective students and their families, for our school staff and the wider River Valley and Swords community.
River Valley CNS is dedicated to the holistic development of every child through the use of high quality, future-focused teaching and learning approaches which strive to develop each individual’s academic, social, moral, emotional, spiritual and creative capabilities. We are committed to the core values of respect, inclusion, equality and fairness, where diversity of belief, language, cultures, traditions and views are not only acknowledged but celebrated.
Our school motto is “partners in learning.” A core value of River Valley CNS is partnership, where staff, parents and members of the wider community work together to enable all of our students reach their full potential in an educational environment which is welcoming, child-centred, stimulating, future-focused, wholly inclusive and reflective of a diverse 21st century Ireland.
